Kids helping the homeless at Halloween

This Halloween, kids across Sydney will be trick-or-treating for cans of food instead of lollies. They’ll be collecting for Rev. Bill Crews’ Exodus Foundation, which will then distribute the food to the poor and the homeless.

“It all started last year on Sydney’s Northern Beaches when a dad told his son he could only trick-or-treat if he collected food for the poor”, said Rev. Crews. “So they collected tins and packaged food and sent them to us at The Exodus Foundation”.

This year Rev. Bill is encouraging kids across Sydney to get involved. “When you go out this Halloween, ask your neighbours to donate a tin of food instead of lollies”, he said. “Once you’ve collected the food you can drop it off at one of almost 200 Uniting Churches across Sydney, and then we’ll collect it.”

Every month The Exodus Foundation provides almost 800 emergency food parcels to the poor and the homeless and demand is increasing. “We’re hoping that with kids out collecting this Halloween we’ll have enough food to get us through the busy Christmas period”, said Rev. Crews.
