This year The Exodus Foundation and Rev. Bill Crews will celebrate their 26th FREE Christmas Day lunch with the poor and needy of Sydney.
“We’re expecting over 3,000 people this year”, said Rev. Crews. “Rising food and electricity prices mean that many of the most disadvantaged simply have no money left to spend on Christmas”.
A quarter of a century ago Rev. Bill shared a plate of sandwiches with just two lonely people on Christmas Day. Within four years that number had grown to 400 and this year he’s expecting their Christmas lunch to be the biggest ever. Guests will eat their way through over 65 hams, 55 turkeys, 540kg of baked vegetables, 220L of gravy and 330L of custard!
“A lot of people have nobody to share Christmas Day with. That is why our free lunch is so important”, said Rev. Crews. “No one should be without good company and good food at Christmas.”
All the needy who attend will also receive a special Christmas gift, and Santa will be on hand to give presents to the kids from struggling families.
Almost 300 volunteers will help serve Christmas lunch. They will assist with everything from cooking to serving, and waiting tables to entertaining.
The Exodus Foundation’s famous FREE Christmas Day lunch is a Sydney tradition, and everyone is invited.
